- Lymphadenitis
- SYMPTOMS. There is enlargement of the lymph nodes such as those in the
- groin, neck and under the arms. The area will be red, tender, painful and
- may be abscessed. The lymph nodes are sometimes mistakenly referred to as
- lymph glands.
- CAUSES. Strep and staph bacteria is usually the cause of the inflammatory
- lymph node reaction although it may be due to any bacterial, viral or other
- infectious agent. It may be due to an infection in a tooth, finger or such.
- TREATMENT. Antibiotic therapy is usually prescribed for the infection.
- .Pain may be relieved by use of ice packs or hot, wet applications.
- .Drainage of abscesses by incision may be required.
